A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

NO HAGAN OLAS…🌊🌊

"IN ZIPOLITE WE ONLY LOOK FOR RESPECT AND SAFETY FOR EVERYONE", SAY AUXILIARY AUTHORITIES

• Given the controversy over the application of fines to those who are caught having sex and the decision to close the Love Beach at night, authorities say they are only looking for safety and healthy coexistence

Patricia Pacheco

ZIPOLITE, POCHUTLA.- In Zipolite there is free traffic and the measure of closing the Playa del Amor at certain hours of the night is strictly due to a security issue. The application of sanctions to those who have sex on the beach has nothing to do with the criminalization of the LGBT community, but with a matter of respect and healthy coexistence between residents and tourists, assured auxiliary authorities of the agency #Zipolite, #Pochutla .

After a controversy generated in social networks and from the publication of notes in the national media where the new application of fines of five thousand pesos and community work for those caught having sexual relations in the beach, with what is presumed, could keep tourism away from the mythical nudist beach; Local authorities pointed out that the agreements stem from a community assembly and were agreed upon in response to the urgency of stopping acts of exhibitionism and recovering the identity of the place as a family and spiritual beach.

“The beach is not closed, it has free traffic and it is 100 percent nudist and family friendly. What we only asked for was a little respect for the population in general, for visitors, children and families because there were already many complaints about inappropriate behavior by some people. Playa del Amor closes at nine at night and we only do it for security,” explained Laura Jarquín Gómez, substitute for the Zipolite Police Agency 2022-2024.

They prioritize the safety of walkers

The interviewee maintained that there had already been many accidents involving people who went into the sea while intoxicated and even assaults on Playa del Amor, in addition to the fact that acts of exhibitionism were already unsustainable, mainly by people from the LGBT community. , who at night or sometimes in broad daylight carried out sexual acts without any modesty, which alienated residents and tourists who only seek to relax, rest and sunbathe on the small and beautiful beach.

He added that the lifeguards leave the beach at seven at night and this increases the vulnerability of those who come to suffer an incident on the beach during the night, in addition to remembering that Playa del Amor is far away, "it is in a corner and many times the cries for help are not heard or in case there are assaults, not even those who live nearby know about it, "he said.

They deny criminalization of the gay community

Faced with the sayings and criticisms that the measure to sanction those who are seen having sex on the beach could be an act of criminalization against the gay community, Jarquín Gómez clarified that in no way do they seek to affect the LGBT segment, whom they respect and They are a fundamental part of tourism.

"Zipolite welcomes them with open arms, freedom prevails here, but with respect," she said.

She added that the sanctions do not only apply to people of the same sex, but to all couples or groups of homosexual or heterosexual people who carry out acts of exhibitionism or sex in public places, not only on the beach of Love.

After confirming that the community supports the measures and restrictions applied for a few weeks, Laura stressed that the tourist police and those who make up the agency are in charge of ensuring that they are complied with, although there is tolerance for those who are unaware of them -mainly visitors- and arrive to be caught in improper acts, because before applying the fines, they are informed and reprimanded in a respectful way so that they measure their behavior or leave the beach and only in case of reoffending are they financially sanctioned.

Questioned on the subject, the mayor Saymi Pineda Velasco was respectful of the decisions of the community, although she pointed out that these will have to be attached to the laws that govern us Mexicans, and agreed that the purpose of the measures is to guarantee the security of visitors and residents.
