A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Glow in the Dark Tacos at LOSTACOS

FoodPop-Ups
A mezcal-fuelled fiesta and glow in the dark tacos, that’s what you can expect from LOSTACOS. Taking place at Doodle Bar in Bermondsey, the Day of the Dead pop-up is the work of Quest for Bold Flavour, a team who have searched high and low for the best dishes from around the world. After two years of research and we imagine a lot of eating, they have come to the conclusion that the humble Mexican taco is the planet’s greatest culinary achievement.
The experience starts with mezcal cocktails and if you get there early enough you can try Pensador Mezcal, a new artisanal mezcal from the southern plains of Oaxaca which won’t be on the UK’s shelves until later this year. Once you’ve built up some Dutch courage there’ll be a screening of cult classic Santo vs The Mummies of Guanajuato and a performance from Whitebrow – a ‘mesmerising and darkly curious’ band.
Where do the tacos come into it though?  And how do they glow in the dark? Well, throughout the evening two wicked waiters will bring round different tacos, including LOSTACOS’ take on Mexico’s famous El Pastor made with marinated, spice and slow-roasted grilled pork, salsa verde, fresh coriander and house-soured cream. Made on site, the tortillas will incorporate ghostly glow-in-the-dark elements. Bet you’ve never had a taco like that before.
LOSTACOS will be held on the 22nd and 29th October at Doodle Bar in Bermondsey
