A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Civil society supports Zipolite families with pantries

ZIPOLITE, Pochutla, Oaxaca.- Concerned about the sensitive situation of dozens of families in various Zipolite neighborhoods, who after several weeks of confinement and lack of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, suffer basic deficiencies serious, a group of residents of this town decided to get down to work and contribute food, medicine and financial support to community projects.
With the sole interest of making the situation of families less difficult and showing solidarity in times of general crisis, Danielle Tatarin, Ernesto de la Vega and Jasmina Adriaens, who arrived some time ago to reside at this tourist pole, decided to raise funds through of a platform called GoFundMe - online donations campaign-, and reflect the empathy and love that people from different parts of the world feel for Zipolite in addition to them.
They donate more than 120 thousand pesos
As a result of the donation campaign, started in early May, the volunteers managed to raise just over 120 thousand pesos contributed by people from countries such as Canada, the United States and Mexico, which resulted in 547 pantries, medicines and special supplies such as diapers , which were delivered to residents of colonies in Zipolite and neighboring towns.
Altruistic support reached local organized groups working on projects such as the community kitchen of the Calavera Social Club collective, “Las Semillas” community gardens, citizens who offer educational classes and seminars for children, a resident of the Arroyo 3 community who is working on the rehabilitation of the playground, as well as a group that promotes the project of a community mural.
Mission accomplished
After intense work, Danielle, Ernesto and Jazmina were pleasantly satisfied for having fulfilled the mission of selflessly covering a basic need, although they acknowledge that it is temporary support, “as organized civil society at a time when government actions are not enough. "
The donation campaign has been temporarily suspended, since according to Ernesto, its immediate function, which was to provide food to families in great need, was accomplished. To publicize the identity and origin of the donors, amounts received and invested, all the information is broken down transparently online, within the same donation platform.
Despite the exhausting nature of the assignment, Danielle points out: “We were very pleased to help the community. We believe that everyone's donations helped provide assistance and also fund projects that have helped the community in a sustainable way and that are useful in the longer term. ”
