A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

El Huracán AGHATA dejó perdidas materiales en todo Zipolite y en comunidades cercanas, la fuerza del viento y del agua arrasaron con las pertenencias de muchas personas.

Pero también esa fuerza de la naturaleza, dejó al descubierto el corazón solidario de muchas personas que nunca han dudado en ayudar a los que menos tienen, nosotros en la Aldea Xha Iba' Zipolite sólo fuimos las manos que hicieron llegar los apoyos a quienes realmente lo necesitan.

Entre esas personas solidarias nos complace tener como amigas y amigos de vida y de lucha a la compañera Wenliu Mora y al compañero Ivän Real, que con mucho cariño junto con sus compañeras y compañeros de la Cooperativa Bamboo Salud Integral 55 1829 7116, donaron láminas al Señor Camilo y a su hija Carmen, para poner en pie nuevamente su casita y tener un techo que los cobije a ellos y a su familia.
