A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Spanish surfer dies on Zicatela beach, in Puerto Escondido; red flag is held by sea in the background

The alien fell from a height of at least two meters from the top of the wave and hit the bottom of the sea, alerting the lifeguards who came to rescue him.

Juchitán de Zaragoza.- Around 7:00 am this Saturday, a surfer identified as being of Spanish nationality died on Zicatela beach, belonging to the tourist destination of Puerto Escondido , in the municipality of Santa María Colotepec in the Costa de Oaxaca region. , while practicing this extreme sport.

According to witnesses, the surfer entered the sea under his responsibility and despite the fact that the municipal authorities had decreed the area with a red flag, due to the phenomenon of the swell.

After entering the water to practice, the foreigner fell from a height of at least two meters from the top of the wave and hit the bottom of the sea, a situation that alerted the lifeguards who came to rescue him.

Although the surfer was taken to the shores of the beach, where they gave him first aid, the lifeguards were unable to revive him, so the municipal authorities of Civil Protection and the fire department were notified.

The area was cordoned off by experts from the Regional Vice Prosecutor's Office to remove the body and report it to the Spanish embassy in Mexico.

With this death, there are nine people who drowned on the beaches of the Costa region in 2021. In April of this year, an American drowned on the beach of Zipolite and on July 7, two UNAM students also died at sea. on the beach of San Agustinillo.

In addition to drowning, the dragging of people due to the swell phenomenon has been recorded in recent weeks, such as the case that was recorded on July 14, when the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) rescued La Bocana beach, belonging to Bahías from Huatulco to two people.

He was a minor of United States nationality and an adult of Mexican nationality. Both were surfing in the area, but due to the intense waves, it was not possible for them to return to the beach
