A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Zipolite pushes next business opening for end of May

They can't stand the crisis anymore!

Inhabitants of the nudist beach promote the next business opening to alleviate the crisis.

ZIPOLITE, Pochutla, Oaxaca.- To avoid further damage to the economy and gradually recover the flow of visitors, residents of Zipolite, Mexico's nudist beach, agreed to reopen restaurants and businesses with a tentative date of May 30 next.
In a community assembly held last weekend, residents of this destination agreed that they are experiencing a general economic deterioration due to the closing of negotiations such as restaurants, hotels and others that are mainly nourished by tourism, as a consequence of the pandemic by COVID- 19.
Progressive business opening
Given this, and because the crisis cannot be postponed further, residents asked the auxiliary authorities headed by agent Antonio García Martínez to consider the reopening of businesses progressively, starting with restaurants that would serve visitors to the region, and taking Take into account state and federal regulations for the term of the quarantine.
In an interview, the municipal agent explained that the operation of hotels will take a little longer, since security filters will continue to prevent the entry of tourists from other entities of the Republic and foreigners, so in the first phase of the economic revival will be wagered on local consumers.
Only tourists from the region
He will not allow tourists, other than those already in the area, to enter the town, whether they have been stranded or live here, and we are confident that there will be a displacement of visitors from the region itself; but, he insisted, if in other poles such as Huatulco or Puerto Escondido, they make their measures more flexible and allow tourism from another state or country to enter, Zipolite will not enter.
At the meeting, residents decided to reinforce the safety sanitary filters located at the entrances to the population and collaborate directly in turns, in addition to supporting the volunteers with food and supplies, since more than 40 days after their installation, there is already much wear and tear on the participants.
They reproach lack of official supports
García Martínez regretted that in the face of so many damages to the economy of service providers, from taxi drivers to hoteliers, there is still no plan for financial support or credits from the state or federal government.
And he reproached that with so little money flow and the exacerbated crisis of the population in general, there are still companies like Elecktra, from the Salinas group, that insist on collecting the credits they give to people who live daily, at which reaffirmed that the collectors will not pass through the Zipolite filters.
"Those affected have even asked us to go to close that store ourselves so that they stop bleeding people," he said.
