Mothers Caravan Reaches Mexican State of Oaxaca |
Mexico, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) The Central American mothers caravan, in search of missing children in the country, on Thursday arrived at the shelter Hermanos en el Camino (Brothers on the Road) in the town of Ixtepec, in the state of Oaxaca, where hundreds of migrants pass by in transit to the northern border. On October 30, the group started traveling by the route known as the Gulf of Migrants, including nine states, in order to publicly and peacefully protest ongoing attacks on migrants. Mexico is the main entry point for Central American migrants to reach the United States, a journey known as The Death Road, due to attacks suffered by these groups during their transit. According to champions of the migrants, they are kidnapped, extorted and murdered by organized crime gangs, besides being harassed by authorities in collusion with criminals. According to government analysts, in 2011, the migratory flow is much lower than in other periods, when it reached 400,000 immigrants per year. lch/as/mv/km/ogt | |
