A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.
Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.
A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.
Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.
Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.
I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

SAN PEDRO POCHUTLA. – Following the heavy rains caused by Hurricane John, the Government of San Pedro Pochutla has launched a major beach cleanup as part of the recovery of areas that are vital to the local economy.
The clean-up was carried out on several beaches, including Playa Zipolite, Playa del Amor, Playa Panteón, Playa Principal Puerto Ángel and Playa Estacahuite. Teams made up of City Hall employees, tourism service providers and citizens joined in this initiative, dedicating their time and effort to collecting waste and restoring these natural spaces.
These actions are aligned with the State Government's operational plan and have the support of the Ministry of Tourism, headed by its head, Saymi Pineda Velasco. The cleanup is being carried out simultaneously in different destinations along the Oaxacan Coast, from Santa María Colotepec to Santa María Huatulco.
The mayor of San Pedro Pochutla, Fidencio Spíndola Ramírez, stressed the importance of keeping beaches clean, not only for environmental health, but also to attract tourists and ensure the well-being of the community. "The collaboration between the City Council and the citizens is essential to recover the beauty of our beaches and reactivate the local economy," he said.
This initiative reaffirms the commitment to preserving the natural environment and promoting sustainable tourism in the region. The clean-up actions aim to restore the image of the beaches and offer a safe and pleasant space for visitors and residents.

Authorities in Santa María Tonameca , Oaxaca , warned about the movement of crocodiles towards beaches such as Mazunte , San Agustinillo , Arroyo Tres , Zipolite and more.
The incident is due to the increase in water levels in Laguna Ventanilla , which is why lifeguards have asked the population and tourists to be alert.
"If you see a crocodile outside its habitat, it is recommended that citizens do not approach it, feed it, or hit it. It is best to keep the appropriate distance and make a report immediately," authorities said.
They stressed that it is important to respect wildlife because these animals have been swept away by the currents of the lagoon and the sea.
They also reiterated that the best way to prevent accidents is to stay away from crocodiles and report them as soon as possible.
