A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck north of Acapulco, Mexico, killing at least one person on Tuesday (September 7), NBC News reports.

The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 and was centered 17 kilometers north of the pacific resort city.

Additionally, buildings swayed about 180 miles north in Mexico City, but the country's capital city didn't have any immediate reports of major damage, NBC News reports.

Guerrero state Governor Hector Astudillo confirmed that an individual was killed by a falling post in the town of Coyuca de Benitez via Milenio Television late Tuesday night.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said the damage appeared limited in a video response to the earthquake earlier Tuesday night.

Obrador did confirm there were rock slides near Acapulco as images of the city showed damaged buildings in the city, which included storefronts and cars from falling bricks and poles.

Authorities confirmed 92 aftershocks were reported to be felt within hours from the initial quake hit in Mexico.

About 1.6 million people in the states of Mexico, Guerrero, Morelos and Oaxaca lost power in relation to the earthquake on Tuesday night, the Federal Electricity Commission confirmed in a statement shared on its verified Twitter account.

The earthquake was initially reported as a magnitude 7.4, but was later revised to be a 7.0, NBC News reports.

Oaxaca de Juárez .– The Piña Palmera civil association will hold a virtual concert on September 19, 2021 with the aim of raising funds that will allow them to continue with their activities and actions to generate processes of inclusion of people with disabilities .

Flavia Anau, coordinator of Piña Palmera, explained that the concert is a proposal by two volunteers in the association and it will involve a young man who plays and sings Chilean women, a group of son jarocho, a pop-soul singer and a group of funk. Although there is no fundraising goal, the organizers estimate that they will receive donations totaling up to 200 thousand pesos.

“At this time, I think it is essential that we all join together to build actions in the communities that have been affected by this whole issue of the pandemic . Especially in rural indigenous communities and with the families of people with disabilities, ”said Flavia Anau.

The resources obtained are just for that, he said, and explained that the work that is being carried out is permanently on house visits and accompaniment so that the entire process of inclusion of people with disabilities is not interrupted.

Piña Palmera is a civil association that is located on the Oaxaca Coast and carries out actions to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in rural indigenous communities, because there are not many options for them due to discrimination, lack of opportunities and accessibility.

“All this has to be worked on, building, new attitudes, the same community has to open up from its community meetings, the same family and small productive activities that in indigenous rural communities have to do with the land, planting, animal care and for all follow-up actions required by people with disabilities ”.

The Piña Palmera coordinator mentioned that currently, since there are no face-to-face classes in Oaxaca, there are families that require a lot of support for the counseling of their sons and daughters, because virtual or distance education for people with disabilities has placed them in a strong position discrimination and increased the system of violence against them.

In an interview with EL UNIVERSAL, he asked those who are interested in music and want to be part of the online concert to raise funds, to join in and "let's go from grain to grain, building this proposal in practice."

The concert for a cause next Sunday, September 19, will begin at 12:00 hours in Mexico time and a link will be made available so that anyone can enjoy it and have information on how they can make donations, if so wish.
