A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

HUATULCO, MEXICO Search for cruises visiting Huatulco OVERVIEW Huatulco has all of the traditional activities any beach community would have, but magnified. The fishing, diving, bird watching, and history are all excellent. The region is known for 36 inviting beaches that stretch up the coastline of the Mexican State of Oaxaca, as well as their culture and black clay pottery. HIGHLIGHTS Hagia Sofia The agro-ecological environment is an alternative destination for people looking to get away from the city and all of the tourism. The area is comprised of cultivated fruit, vegetables, and timber, as well as various types of wildlife. This relaxing activity is best enjoyed with family or friends. Scuba Diving Lessons (Buceo Sotavento) Huatulco has some of the most pristine water and beautiful beaches in Mexico. The underwater sites are just as beautiful as above, and diving is a perfect way to explore that. Some popular destinations are La Entrega, La Montosa, or Risco la Blanca. Archeological Exploration The Copalita Eco-Archeological Park opened in 2010 and is a 36 hectare area with remnants dating back to the first century. The area is inundated with history about the people that called this place home, as far back as 2600 years ago up until the 16th century. Playa Cacaluta The world “cacaluta” comes from the Indian word that means “black eagle”. True to the name of the beach and coastal island, beachgoers will often see the Common Black Hack circling the area. The beach is also famed for being featured in the 2001 movie, Y Tu Mama Tambien.
