A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Oaxaca - Puerto Angel/Puerto Escondido

 Oaxaca - Puerto Angel/Puerto Escondido
I am planning a trip to Mexico DF and Oaxaca in early May. We will be spending a week in each, and I was hoping to spend a weekend by the beach. We have been told the turtle museum/general atmosphere nearby is amazing (and I'm not 100% sure of the actual location - but assume it's Zoplite??).
What is the best way to travel from Oaxaca to the coast? (I have read a few other posts, and both me and my Partner suffer from travel sickness.) What are (guide) prices in terms of travelling?
And where is better - Puerto Angel or Puerto Escondido (or somewhere else) to stay?
In terms of budget - looking to spend up to £150/200 for 3 nights accommodation (although for us to pay this much it'd need to be pretty special!), we're a 20-something couple, and are looking for somewhere with a great atmosphere, but not necessarily partying until the early hours. If the pricing of the accommodation is way off, let me know!
Thanks

Take a look at Un Sueño in San Agustinillo which is walking distance from the Turtle Museum in Mazunte. Go to the Hualtulco page and in the Top Questions on the right hand side read "What's west of the airport" for a flavour of the area. You can fly from Oaxaca to either Huatulco or Puerto Escondito or you can take a long winding bus ride to Pochutla and a $10 taxi from there.

For accommodations, best to look at the TA listings for both hotels, and bed & breakfasts and inns, for each location you intend to visit. You'll find detailed information, and especially informative and helpful the reviews by travellers. My suggestion is to find the lodgings which interest you, and then inquire about prices since the prices published on TA are by the establishments themselves, and often vary greatly based on season, type of room, A/C or not, level of tourism at the time, etc.
In terms of guides / prices, I can only speak for the city ofOaxaca and touring the central valley sights (ruins, craft villages, churches, ecotourism, etc). You can hop on a tour bus for a couple of hundred pesos each, use a taxi for roughly 120 - 150 pesos an hour, or hire a guide / driver for about $20 - $30 USD per hour.
Earlier today I posted in reply to a question about spending 7 days in Oaxaca in March, and included links to articles about pros and cons of the various touring options, so perhaps take a look at those links.
TIP: Since you suffer from motion sickness, even when flying take dramamine or other similar anti-nausea pills. The flight is breathtaking, but the planes are small.

Fly between Oaxaca and PE. Possible hotel in PE could be Arcoiris located on Zicatela where at that time you should be able to get a room on the hill for 50 to 60 dollars including breakfast. You can travel to the turtle museum by public bus.Allow half day for that trip and check for the days when the museum is open. Most restaurants in PE and Oaxaca offer dinner for around 120 to 150 pesos excluding alcohol. Oaxaca offers lots of tours at this time at discounted prices of 150 pesos.I am in Oaxaca now. Lots of hotels in historical district for around 60 dollars and it will allow you to walk to almost anywhere you will want to go.Travel light as baggage policy only allows for one bag and it is enough really.
A most enjoyable part of Mexico to enjoy and people are really friendly
