A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Weather blamed for 14 deaths in 2 states

Most of the victims drowned in floodwaters in Veracruz

  6  0
Heavy rains, strong winds and hail have been blamed in the deaths of 14 people in Veracruz and Oaxaca since Thursday, where rivers have overflowed their banks, power has been cut and highways blocked due to landslides.
Eight of the deaths were in Veracruz, where most of the victims were swept away by flood waters in the municipalities of Atzalan, Medellín and Yanga. In one case the occupants of a taxi drowned after the vehicle was carried away by a strong current.
In Oaxaca, a helicopter owned by Teléfonos de México crashed, killing four people, and two others died after being struck by lightning in the Zimatlán district.
The Telmex helicopter was working in Santa María Chilchotla near the Puebla border when the pilot lost visibility and struck a hillside.
Civil Protection authorities say 414 homes have been damaged in 21 neighborhoods of Veracruz. Communication with nine communities has been severed and two bridges are out in Yanga and in Platón Sánchez.
Electrical service was lost in many communities, and drainage systems were not functioning due to chunks of ice formed by compacted hail.
At least 80 people are being housed in shelters in three communities.
The storm, brought on by Cold Front #43, also delivered high winds with gusts up to 49 km/h

The 2 Cheapest Days of the Week to Fly March 26, 2015 4:31 pm by Ed Perkins

The 2 Cheapest Days of the Week to Fly
Be a little flexible with your flight itinerary and you could save some cash; that's because some days are cheaper for flying than others. There are two specific days that are cheapest for air passengers. Those days are likely to yield the best rates for departures and arrivals. But remember: This isn't an exact science.
The universal consensus seems to be that airfares tend to be lowest for flights that depart on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. That's what George Hobica of our sister site Airfarewatchdog says, along with CheapAir. Some sources, including Fodor's, add Thursday, and others, including our own Josh Roberts and FareCompare, add Saturday.
Expedia's 2015 Travel Trends White Paper posts the most comprehensive analysis of the "when to fly" question. Expedia concludes that, for long-haul flights, leaving on Thursday and returning on Monday costs around 20 percent less than leaving on Friday and returning on Saturday. The lowest in-and-out combinations tend to include outbound flights on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday with return flights on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday. For short-haul trips, Expedia's lowest-fare groupings are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday both ways.
Does time of day matter? Oddly enough, you find very little data on this question. Overall, afternoons are the "rush hour" for flying, so you find fewer good airfares on afternoon flights. On some short-haul routes, early mornings are also rush hour, as business travelers start their quick in-and-out single-day trips. Still, others say the dinner hour is a good time to fly.
On domestic routes, fares for overnight red-eye flights are often lower than for daytime flights—but you have to put up with the miseries of sitting up all night in a tiny economy seat.

Iconic guitarist will perform at the Angel de la Independencia

Iconic Mexican-American musician Carlos Santana will perform a free concert Saturday in Mexico City.
The 67-year-old, internationally-renowned guitarist will play at 8:00pm at the Angel de la Independencia. Such concerts normally take place in the zócalo, but that space is currently being utilized for the filming of the James Bond movie, Spectre.
Santana played Monday to close the Veracruz festival Cumbre de Tajín and is performing tonight in Guadalajara at the Arena VFG. He plays again tomorrow in Mexico City at the Palacio de los Deportes.
The concerts are featuring music from Santana’s latest album, Corazón. Released last year, it is the first Spanish-language album he has released in his 50-year career.
Joining Santana for the shows in Mexico is Gregg Rolie, a member of the original Santana Bues Band.

Aeroméxico launches new California links

Flights to Sacramento and LA/Ontario airports announced

  0  0
The Mexican flag carrier Aeroméxico continues to expand its service to the United States.
It will begin offering three non-stop flights a week between Mexico City and Sacramento, California, starting April 6, leaving Mexico Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays, and departing from Sacramento on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The airline will use a Boeing 737 on the route, carrying 132 passengers.
The service will allow for one-stop connections to Cancún, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. Aeroméxico has been flying non-stop between Sacramento and Guadalajara since 2011, a route that saw traffic grow by 48% between 2013 and 2014, said airport officials.
Another new route will also begin operating on April 6 when four weekly flights commence between Mexico City and L.A./Ontario International Airport. Mexico City departures will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; flights from Ontario will leave Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
It will be the first time in nearly 10 years that the San Bernardino airport, the third largest in the Los Angeles area, will see flights into the Mexico capital.
Aeroméxico already offers service four days a week between Ontario and Guadalajara, and Volaris has two flights a week on the same route.
U.S. Census data shows that one-half of the 2 million people who live in San Bernardino county are Hispanic.
