A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The NBA is back in Mexico for a regular-season game, and the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves are learning there's an additional rival to conquer: The altitude.
During a practice game Tuesday, Minnesota's players looked noticeably exhausted.
"It was very tough getting through the sprints," Kevin Love said. "You lose your breath very easy in here, but it was a good practice. Hopefully we'll have our wind tomorrow."
The Timberwolves and Spurs will play Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. EST.
Sitting at 7,350 feet above sea level, Mexico's capital is at a far higher elevation than Denver, which is the NBA's highest venue at 5,280 feet.
"In Denver, which is the highest city in the United states, we can feel (the altitude) in the first five minutes," the Spurs' Manu Ginobili said. "I'm sure it will be much more difficult here."
Minnesota, which will be the home team, has never played in Mexico. During the practice, Love and the rest of his teammates looked visibly tired.
"We did not know the altitude would affect us so much but we were able to run a bit during practice," said Jose Juan Barea, who has twice played in Mexico for Puerto Rico's national team — in Cancun and Guadalajara.
"The trainer asked us to drink a lot of water because he wants to make sure we're OK," Barea said.
Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman said he plans to modify his strategy a bit to take the city's altitude into account.
"We have to be very aware on probably getting guys in earlier than we normally would," Alder said. "We had a scrimmage to get ready for it. Our substitutions will be quicker."
Spurs coach Greg Popovich said he won't change his substitution plan and simply hopes that "as the minutes go by, the (altitude's) effect will pass. I'm not planning any changes."
The game Wednesday will be the 21st played south of the border. Although, this will be the first regular-season game since the Dallas Mavericks faced the Houston Rockets on December 6, 1997, at Mexico City's Palacio de los Deportes.
The Spurs have played five games in Mexico, including one just a couple of years ago when they played a preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
"It's certainly different because now is a sum game," Ginobili said. "In preseason, it's for fun. Now we do not want to lose."
All but two of the 21 games have been held in Mexico City.
After their practice, the Spurs took their socks and sneakers off and played against a team of Trique Indian boys, who have earned acclaim in Mexico and abroad after sweeping through a youth basketball tournament despite their generally short stature and the fact that most play barefoot.
The team from the southern Mexico state of Oaxaca won all six of its games to become this year's champions at the International Festival of Mini-Basketball held recently in Argentina.
"It's a wonderful story," Popovich said. "They have good fundamentals. I was surprised to learn many don't speak Spanish."
They played a five-on-five that was won by the Trique Indian boys, 10-4.
"We ran, and we had fun," said Ginobili, who is from Argentina. "I know they did well in Argentina and it was pleasure to have had this experience with them."

Pochutla Zipolite, Oaxaca.
Oaxaca de Juárez -. Zipolite How beautiful and how to enjoy nature ... God knows why everything is in place, is that Zipolite is building an extraordinary beauty, where everyone has access and fortunately I say this because it is actually a place within reach of every pocket.
often said that a place is economical for them to visit, but when traveling we make sure that is not so.

Zipolite is actually very cheap, as there are simple huts and where tourists are Europeans for over a month because your expenses beach here is very low.
recently Televisa producer and actor was in Israel Jaitovich check here, who came to celebrate his birthday along with Gamborimbo ie actor Miguel Vallejo, along with other characters in the show business, they told us that they felt very comfortable in this wonderful place we considered a "true paradise ".
talked with Pablo Lozano Lyoban whom we told what the concept of Zipolite and this told us: "I came to Imagine Zipolite and fell in love so much, that's why I put some cabins here, since it was a place for me, it had everything to be happy "and adds:" Having contact with nature, having no large hotels that invade the beach, have no modern buildings affecting the natural environment, are the attributes that remain difficult elsewhere also blessed, but which have not been preserved. " Not all beach destinations tourists can walk willingly to the sea, as there are obstacles that can not cope and those are the big hotels, which prevents the enjoyment of the natural beauty or you have to pay, nothing happens here, here everyone, absolutely everyone enjoy walking freely without any cost for the beaches.
"Currencies and the entire economic benefit stays here as having no economic development consortia is to the same place, so we need the public to know the low cost of lodging, food and tourism services that are here, and the freedom of being naked, which is another attraction for those who want to feel free ".
"Contrary to the strict rules in some beach resorts, where you do not allow access but are dressed according to a" dress code "in Zipolite can walk up naked and no one tells you anything ... This is a place Cosmopolitan where many kids come to practice their skills in different languages, as here you will find people from all continents. "
It tells Lyoban their cabins that bear his name are located at the edge of the beach, overlook the sea, where everything is beautiful, there are those who are fascinated by sunrises, but there are those who enjoy the sunsets over, but when night falls, the absence of huge chandeliers, the dense star sky can be seen, the waves seem Holidays are a white foam flashing lights to withdraw leave to return again while you delight in the melodious and classical wave than with the passage of time and modernization, is lost, but here it is so natural and as preserved, which I enjoy as enjoyed by generations and generations unimaginable. The price of a night in one of these cabins overlooking the sea is around $ 500 pesos, here we left his phone to call and come to pass as kings, but without spending much: 019 585 843 177 page: www.lyoban.com.mx

NEXT CIRCUS FESTIVAL in Mazunte - 2017

Dear @ s teachers, artists, friends s,

We inform you that the next edition of the festival of circus in Mazunte be until 2017.

We took this decision after assessing Circus Mermejita this latest edition of the festival.

As you know this is an unfunded Festival by implying a great job by the organization and employees. Recent years, the Festival has grown so much work has increased and we feel we need some time to settle and rethink your organization.

We need to work more on integration and mutual respect-community festival. To this end we would like to start a community project to involve more people in this circus activities in order that the circus is part of the community that people value it as something you and not as something external.

Another point that brings us to this decision, is to have the time to rewrite the project, with the aim of presenting it to calls for grants and to make the festival a good infrastructure.

We will inform you of the call to submit your work for the 2017 edition, dated and material we need.
As always we open the mail to arrive us suggestions, comments and others that can help us to improve this project.

Thank you for participating and for the support.

GREETINGS MERMEJIT L @ S @ S

Great Gildersleeve Serviceman For Thanksgiving

Jack Benny Cooked The Turkey

My Spanish Notes - Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias - Happy Thanksgiving

Posted: 28 Nov 2013 09:20 AM PST

If you want to tell your Spanish speaking friends Happy Thanksgiving, then this is the phrase you want:

Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias
Happy Thanksgiving

That's all fine and dandy, but it gets old and it's not very much fun.  Lucky for you there are a few other ways to say it that might impress your Spanish friends.

But before we get to those, let's talk about a few words you may not be familiar with.  The first one is pavo.

Here's a pavo:

That's right, it's a turkey.  And unlike with fish, pavo is the same word for seeing one in the wild and eating it on your plate.

Como preparar un sandwich de pavo
How to make a turkey sandwhich

That piece of information is probably not a big surprise, I'm sure many of you already know the word pavo.  But you may be surprised to hear that pavo isn't the only word for turkey.

In Mexico a pavo is also called guajolote.  In Guatemala it's a chompipe.  Cuba?  guanajo.  There are probably even more words for turkey, but I think you get point.

So what does any of that have to do with Thanksgiving you ask?

I'm sure nearly all of my American readers know have heard the phrase "Happy Turkey Day".  Well with your new found Spanish vocabulary for turkey you can now say the equivalent in Spanish.

Felíz día del pavo
Happy Turkey Day

That's pretty generic and should be understood anywhere.  Now if you want to impress your Mexican friends, you can say:

Feliz Día del Guajolote

Got Guatemalan friends?  Wish them Happy Thanksgiving with this:

Feliz Día de Chompipe

Well, that's it for today!  Except for one last thing:

¡Chao!

If you don't know what a regla is, it's a ruler.  But that's not the only definition of regla, nor is it the definition we're here to talk about.

When you hear someone refer to la regla, it's a way of referring to the menstruation cycle, or el ciclo menstrual.  You can also say periodo menstrual.

La regla me vino por primera vez con 15
My period came for the first time when I was 15

No me viene la regla
My period didn't come

But just like in English, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Estoy en mis días
I'm on my period

Ando en mis días
I'm on my period

Está con la regla
She's on her period

I'm on my period, don't talk to me

When it comes to talking about when "la regla" did or didn't arrive, you can use the verb venir like the examples above but there's also another very common option using the verb bajar.

No me baja
My period didn't start

Me bajó hace una semana
My period started a week ago

Me debía de haber bajado desde el día 21
My period should have started on the 21st

If you have 52 seconds, want to practice your listening skills and want a good laugh, then this video is for you.  Be sure to listen for the phrases we just talked about.

That's it for today!  I hope you all learned something and got a good laugh from the video.
