A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

San Agustinillo

San Agustinillo

About a 15-minute drive west of Viewpoint down the
Oaxaca coast is Playa
San Agustinillo.  This 1300 meter long beach is divided
into 3 sections by
rocky jut-outs that reach into the ocean.  The far west
end of the beach is
called Playa Rinconcillo, a well-sheltered area that is
great for swimming.
This area is where
most of the fishermen offer boat and sportfishing tours.  The easternmost section is
called Playa Aragon
which has strong waves and undertow.  From June to December it is possible
to see Olive Ridley turtles laying their eggs on the beaches of San Agustinillo.
All along the shoreline you can find great little rustic establishments with ecologic and
European flair
as many Italians and French own here.
Mexico Lindo Restaurant

A great place to set up for a relaxing beach day is Mexico Lindo
restaurant, located on the far west
end of San Agustinillo.  You can rent boogieboards and surfboards here and even take
 some surf
lessons.  Sip on cold cervezas and relax under a palapa or take a siesta in a restaurant
 hammock.
Here you can enjoy pizza, fresh seafood and other regional favorites, including the
delicious shrimp
 tacos – a must try.
El Pelicano is another great Oceanside restaurant in San Agustinillo, serving amazing
fresh seafood
and authentic Mexican fare.  The chili rellenos are a must try with some of the
best sangria in Mexico.
Listen to the waves roll in while you enjoy the delicious food here.

Enjoy wood-fire oven baked pizza at La Termita.
If you are in the mood for great pizza, look no further
than La Termita,
owned by an Italian-Argentinian.  Located on the main
 road in San
Agustinillo, this place can’t be beat for amazing wood
oven pizza and
calzone.  Enjoy your meal on the beach or in the
restaurant while you
watch the chef whip up your favorite slice of pie – yum!
If you are in the mood for some adventure, check out Ola Verde
Expediciones, a company specializing in rafting, kayaking, coffee plantation
tours and other custom trips.
Whether it’s relaxing under a palapa on the beach, boogie boarding in the
waves or enjoying some
delicious authentic Mexico or Itailan cuisine, you can find it all at Playa San
Agustinillo.

Eisbach – A Hidden Surf Spot Downtown Munich Posted on September 7, 2012 2:42 minutes video – in Munich, Germany

Eisbach – A Hidden Surf Spot Downtown Munich

2:42 minutes video – in Munich, Germany
Spot this ultracool, absolutely natural surfwave, where you’d least expect it: downtown Munich. For safety reasons, the Eisbach surf spot is an unofficial attraction and not likely to be found in mainstream tourist guides. Here is it’s exact location on Google Maps.
Weather permitting, the Eisbach surf spot is open all year. It is one of the free things to do in Munich, along with a stroll around the English Garden, the Viktualienmarkt or the Christkindl winter markets. The Eisbach bridge is right above the wave and perfect for watching the surfers and taking some pictures. [img via]

Oaxaca – Puerto Escondido

Having enough of cold nights and mountainous areas, a 7 hours mini bus will drive me to the Pacific Coast to a small town named  PUERTO ESCONDIDO.
The place is well known for surfers, as between march and august, the “mexican pipeline” can have waves up to 12 meters high, only for pros of course.
The area is a chill out area with the paradise alike palm tree roof tops, nice sandy beach, and tropical weather.
The area has different beaches and each of them has a different purpose :
- Playa Zicatela : that’s the large long beach where the waves can be surfed only by professionals as the water currents are pretty dangerous as well. The area is full of small bars with roofs made of coconut tree leafes and restaurants, that’s also where the nightlife happens.

- Playa principal : the one in the middle of the town is where the fishermen brings the fish early in the morning to be sold on site directly and at the local market. Delicious ones!
- Playa Manzanillo, is a little paradise on it’s own, a few places to chill in the shadow, you can always have a nice fresh coconut :-)
And yes i agree it was my first day at the beach, so… there is work to do on the suntan ;-)
- Playa Carizalillo is where you can learn how to surf, as the waves do not reach more than 2 meters high so it’s perfect to start.
One of the main attraction of the place is also to take a boat for a couple of hours and look for Dolfins, turtles and whales. Luckily we saw a lot of dolfins until seeing a group of almost 30 of them, a few turtles one of which we actually were able to grap at shore, quite big! and 2 whales that actually wanted to play with us, that almost got slightly dangerous.
And yes here is “Jose Manuel” la tortuga, handled by two weird individuals, a Swiss man and a french girl.
Finally this place has a great sunset every evening at around 5h30 pm, enjoy peacefuly with a nice fresh beer.
