A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Is there a daytime bus from Huatulco to San Cristobal de las Casas?
My husband and I are thinking to spend some time on the Oaxaca coast (likely Mazunte) and then go to San Cristobal de las Casas. I've found information about nighttime buses on OCC bus from Huatulco to San Cristobal, but I was wondering if anyone knows of daytime bus options. We've heard the scenery is beautiful and we would just prefer to travel during the day. Any advice??

Also, if anyone has suggestions for cabanas in Mazunte, that would also be much appreciated. Thank you!

The problem is that ADO doesn't list any daytime first-class buses operating from Huatulco to San Cristobal de Las Casas. But you have some options. Try to find one first-class bus to Salina Cruz, and then another from there to your destination (I didn't check this option). Or take second-class buses (not shown on the ADO website); in which case you'll probably change in Tehuantepec (also a good place to stop for a visit.)

When I was last in the area, it was my impression that Juchitan was the bus hub for the area. That's because busses come down from Oaxaca city as well as receive the busses coming in from 200. An old edition of LP Mexico says there are three busses from Juchitan to San Cris, the first at 12:15 pm. It would be on either ADO or one of its many lines. I hope this looks promising for you.

I see only night buses from Oaxaco to San Chris. From Juchitan the ADO site shows one of their OCC buses at 7AM to Tuxtla and you would arrive at a little after 11AM. From there, frequent ADO and OCC buses make the 1 hour run to San Chris.
