A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

The 5 Most Dangerous Beaches in The World

The 5 most dangerous beaches in the world
At other times we’ve told you of the best beaches for surfing and also the world’s most beautiful beaches, and both times we show you places to appreciate the freshness and the waves of the sea in a tropical paradise.
Today’s proposal is different because you talk about the 5 most dangerous beaches in the world, so rather than encourage you to visit and enjoy a refreshing swim there, I advise that you look from as far away as possible. As the sirens with which Ulysses crossed according to Greek mythology. These beaches are beautiful and tempting, but succumb to the temptation to go with them can be fatal, and tell you why.
New Smyrna (Florida, USA)
This was the highest number of shark attacks for no apparent reason. I think this is already a clear indication of why you should not dive into the waters of Smyrna. However, it is true that sharks are closer than usual at this beach, statistics affects the huge number of tourists visiting New Smyrna. Also (in case anyone finds it mitigating), most of these attacks are not fatal.
Beaches north and east of Australia
We’re on a beach with fewer sharks before, but much more abundant in other animal: the jellyfish (or jellyfish) in Australia. I know we all bathed in sea with jellyfish sting once and its no big deal, but these jellyfish are somewhat different … None other than one of the most poisonous animal in the world. They are almost invisible.
Beaches north and east of Australia
Boa Viagem (Brazil)
The beaches of Brazil, the most beautiful “do mundo”, they are also accompanied by one of the best climates for vacation, also have their drawbacks … The Boa Viagem, for example, is home to sharks, very angry with the humans who destroy their natural habitat, and often decide to retaliate, especially in the estuary area of ??the beach.
Hanakapiai (Hawaii)
The fact that the danger of Hanakapiai are neither sharks or other sea creature does not decrease the number of people who die here. Strong currents have claimed a few lives, so it is a beautiful beach to watch and play.
Zipolite (Mexico)
Another beauty that is best appreciated from afar … His treacherous currents make it called “the beach of the dead”, and unless you can not suppress the desire to die, or consider dive here in the days after the full moon.
Zipolite, Mexico
5 beauties, landscapes 5, 5 and 5 tourist spots where they do not defy nature …

Yeah, that incident may be "out of time," but it did occur in Puerto, in the late 80's, as best I can recall. Probably between 1986 and 1990. I wasn't here for the occasion, and relied on accounts from a friend of mine who was here when that swell hit.

According to him, a big wave bodysurfer himself, the swell hit as described, and Foo and Bradshaw were in Puerto for it. I agree that surf forecasts in those days were sketchy at best, but my friend gave me an honest account of what happened, because he was really excited about having hit Puerto on such a big swell, with such illustrous surfing companions. (They were both well-known and famous at the time.) And he's not the kind of guy who BS'ed about surf.

I also took a little "literary license" with that incident, because either Bradshaw or Foo was sick with an apparent case of "tourista," and did not go out (I think that was Bradshaw) but that the other (Foo) did go out. The swell was big, as described, 25-30 foot faces with 25-foot lefts peeling off Marinero, running all the way to the inside of the Bay, and closing out at 8-foot where the creek hits the Bay.

Good observations, but I'm sure my friend will attest it occurred pretty much as described.
