A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

LIVE MAZUNTE EDITION 12 OF CIRCO FESTIVAL
• Organized by the company Mermejita Circus, the Circus Festival presents diverse and multidisciplinary artistic proposals from March 6 to 13
Patricia Pacheco
MAZUNTE, TONAMECA. - With multidisciplinary proposals, an eclectic programming with pieces that are suitable for the whole family, explore humor or address adult topics, and whose common basis is the skill and creativity of artists of various latitudes; the edition ón12 of the #Mazunte Circus Festival is underway.
Considered as a heritage of the community of Mazunte, Tonameca, which has hosted it since its beginning, seen growing and consolidating as a unique cultural product on the Oaxaca Coast, the Festival is also an experience that has in the circus one p entry door for various artistic exploration with original creations, from a visual and conceptual wealth equivalent to shows presented on world stages.
Organized as 12 years ago by the company Mermejita Circus , based in Mazunte and working permanently with community expansion programs and training of new artists with the participation of workshops related to what to do Circus; The Circus and Performing Arts Festival takes roots and is presented this occasion from March 6 to 13, taking care of the sanitary measures, aphoros and counting as the main headquarters the Mermejita Forum (with limited amount) and the community space of the beach Zipolite.
Variety and integrating proposal
“We have a varied artistic proposal, with shows for children, humor, for adults, for the whole family, room shows and an open function in Zipolite. There is no healing that transversalice; it is a collage, an integration of everything. We are interested in the liminal proposals, which are not of such a circus, but are asked about other things and that start to think the circus in relation to its context," said Mariana Blanco, director of the festival and founder of Mermejita Circus.
In its 12th edition, the event will be inaugurated with the "Contrapeso", creation of Mermejita Circus, which is presented on Sunday March 6 in the company's space, located on a side of the beach of the same name and is a rrie sgada stage proposal for adults.
For Thursday, March 10, the Oaxaque group Circo Plantae exhibits the scenic adaptation “Nagasi”, while Italian artist Emanuele Occhipinti presents “Pieza de rueda”, and Daniel Oso Quesada, a circus personal show.
On Friday 11, Silvio Vargas, Colombian actor and clown, presents the play “Chichón, and different artists of the festival present numbers by the company Zarawato.
On Saturday, March 12, there will be a variety of international circus and on Sunday, March 13, the contemporary circus company Zarawato presents the “Co” piece, the latest in the Zipolite community space.
A community festival
The creator reported that although the event was designed from its beginnings as a community activity being held in public places, due to the pandemic, during recent editions, she has had to gather reduced stockpiles, and est and year is not the exception, therefore Mermejita Circus committed to auxiliary authorities not to hold events that would aglutate a large number of people, so most presentations will be held in the Mermejita space and only one will be held in a public square in Zipolite.
The Festival, as from its beginning, is held with the support of the community, which contributes part of food and accommodation for artists, while the rest of the funding comes from the Creation Support System and Cultural Projects from the Secretary of Culture of Federal Government.
In addition, Blanco reported, more than 20 workshops on circus training and artistic creation are held that are given by professionals of the performing arts from various parts of the world, who are invited to the festival and enrich the cultural atmosphere that prevails in the place.
