A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Volcano ash alert in several parts of Mexico City after explosion at El Popo

It's Ash Wednesday although Easter is some time off yet

It’s Ash Wednesday but only in southern Mexico City after an explosion at the Popocatépetl volcano early this morning triggered an ash fall alert.
The explosion was recorded at 8:26am, expelling an ash plume that extended 1,200 meters above the volcano. Winds sent the ash to the west of the volcano, covering an area in southern and southeastern Mexico City that encompasses the boroughs of Magdalena Contreras, Tlalpan, Coyoacán, Xochimilco, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac and Iztapalapa.
Authorities advised residents of those areas to cover their mouths and noses with damp handkerchiefs, clean their eyes and throat with water and avoid using contact lenses, as these contribute to eye irritation in the presence of ash.
Drivers are advised to keep their windows closed and to moderate their speed, as the ash can reduce traction. The use of air conditioning is not advised, and drivers should listen to the radio for updates on air quality conditions.
Residents are urged sweep up the ash and deposit it in bags, avoiding the use of water. Mixing water and ash solidifies when it dries and can clog storm drains.

7 Easy to Pack Shoes That Take Up Minimal Suitcase Space

7 Easy to Pack Shoes That Take Up Minimal Suitcase Space

There is nothing worse than packing up all of your
clothes and toiletries, thinking your suitcase isn’t
too full, and realizing you still have to pack your
shoes, which, of course, take up a ton of space.
But fear not! There are plenty of packable shoes
out there that won’t take up precious space in your luggage.

Xero Shoes TerraFlex

When you’re traveling, it’s always nice to
have a good sneaker or hiking shoe, but
the bulkiness is often a hassle when trying
to pack. These shoes from Xero Shoes are
lightweight with great traction and an
embedded 3mm BareFoam layer. They
are flexible enough to scrunch up perfectly
into your suitcase. Available in 2 colors, and
 in men’s and women’s styles.

Amazon User Review: These are the most
comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Usually,
there's a few days of bliss with a new pair
of wide toe box shoes when my toes are
relieved from their former prisons. Then,
my toes get used to the room and want
more, or I just settle for the least uncomfortable
shoes I can find. These shoes I've been
wearing non-stop since they arrived and loving them.”

Waterproof Shoe Covers

For the times you are traveling somewhere
infamously rainy, you’re going to want
some type of rain shoe. These are both
waterproof and anti slip. Rain boots can
sometimes be bulky and take up tons of
space in your luggage. Shoe covers like
these from Ceratown squish down excellently,
leaving plenty of space in your bag. Available
in 2 colors.

Amazon User Review: “These Waterproof
shoe covers are perfect. I use them every
day when I have to go into the chicken coop,
where it's muddy and wet. They are definitely a
