A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

What Not to Wear in the Airport Security Line

The best way to ease through airport security is to dress for success. Certain garments and accessories could get you flagged for extra screening, slowing down your progression through the airport. Want to roll through the security line like a pro? Avoid wearing the following attire.

We advise travelers to wear slip-on shoes in the airport security line. You'll have to take your shoes off and put them in the screening bin before walking through the metal detector, and flyers fumbling with tangled laces or strappy sandals could hold up the line. Plus, if you're in a hurry to catch your flight, slip-on shoes will be easy to put back on and thus will hasten your transit from the end of security to the terminal.
Note that children under the age of 12 and adults ages 75 and older may leave their shoes on during screening.

If you set off the metal detector, you're in for additional screening—or at least a little extra attention while other travelers stream past you. Everything from metal fasteners on clothes to body piercings to keys in your pocket could cause alarm in the security line.
If you are wearing metal body piercings that cannot be removed, you may request a private screening in lieu of a patdown.
Belts

If your pants fall down the moment your belt comes off, don't wear them to the airport. You can probably imagine why. Flyers must remove belts before walking through metal detectors, so choose a belt-free outfit, or at least be prepared to remove your belt if you want to wear one.
Belts aren't permitted through airport security because their metal clasps set off the metal detector. However, even if you are wearing a belt without a metal clasp, an agent might request that you remove it anyway. It's standard procedure.
Coats And Jackets

It's airport screening 101: Travelers must remove coats and jackets—this includes outerwear like hooded sweatshirts, vests, and such—before going through the metal detector. It's perfectly fine to sport a jacket in a chilly airport. Just remember to take your outerwear off and put it in a screening bin before proceeding through the checkpoint.
Anything Offensive

Offensive clothing may get you kicked off a plane, but it could also draw extra attention from TSA agents (though it's more likely that airline staff, rather than an airport security agent, will ban you from flying due to inappropriate or offensive clothing). Stories of flyers prohibited from planes due to poor wardrobe choices abound, and, for most of them, the trouble occurred after they made it through the screening process. Still, agents may pull you aside for additional screening if they perceive a threatening or questionable message on your slogan T-shirt. Bottom line: If you woudn't wear it to a family-friendly restaurant or even to church, don't wear it for air travel.

Loose clothes aren't prohibited. But travelers sporting baggy apparel, such as droopy pants, flowy skirts, bulky sweatshirts, or even loose garments worn for religious purposes, may be subject to extra screening. According to the TSA, you might be selected for a pat-down inspection if your clothes are "large enough to hide prohibited items."

Tips for Traveling Safely this Summer

by paradise

Summer is the time for travel. It's the time of year where it's warm everywhere, opening the doors to many possibilities for destinations. Wherever you plan to go this summer, make sure that you do so safely. To help make sure that you and your loved ones have a good time with minimal bumps in the road, you can follow these tips to stay prepared.

Have Backup Funding Just in Case

Depending on where you are traveling for the summer, you want to make sure that you have a secondary resource of money. You should avoid carrying all of your cash and credit cards on you when you're out enjoying the sights. Robberies do happen and if it happens to you, then you want to have a backup credit card or a stash of cash to get you back home. You also want to make sure that if you have a credit card or bank card as a backup that will work in the country you're in.

Bring Emergency Numbers with You

There are a variety of things that can happen while you're on your summer trip. Cars and credit cards can be stolen, people become ill and arrests could take place. Knowing who to call when these things occur is important to resolving them. So make sure to bring numbers for your auto insurance company, health insurance company and important emergency contacts, such as family members.

Make Sure You Have Auto Insurance Coverage

Whether you're driving your own vehicle or renting a car from a company like Fox Rent a Car, you want to ensure that you have proper auto insurance coverage. Things you want to have included are vandalism, theft, breakdowns and collisions. If you end up getting into an accident without the proper coverage, while driving in a foreign country, you could end up behind bars and paying hefty fines.

If you are planning to rent a car at your summer destination, check the discounts available for Fox Rent a Car. You can also find deals for thousands of other stores at Groupon Coupons.

and spit out in pieces in the old lagoon behind Chefi´s .
Hi again Ivan, and hi Joseph.Displaying DSCN2870.JPG
Displaying DSCN2900.JPG
We got some really big waves and lost the front part of our property. Other places got filled with sandDisplaying DSCN2911.JPG
Here are some pics so you can get an idea. Displaying DSCN2915.JPG
just wanted to fill you guys in.
Basically, various factors built up and 4 meter, 4 ton waves literally vacuumed Cafe Maya into the ocean.
I still can barely believe it, it left the sand clean from the kitchen all the way to the shoreline, no evidence that anything had ever existed , only photos remain. I sent a pic. of the front of the cabañas the afternoon before the big wave
They say several factors contributed to the massive energy that was accumulated to accomplish this destruction:
Earthquake in Nepal may have sent tsunamis over to mid pacific ocean..."afterwaves" lingering out there , combined with waves from Chilean quake days prior, added to the full moon, spring tides, and a swell we normally get this time of year and chomp chomp...as Andrew says, plus "the waves heard about the good eats at Cafe Maya and decided to come for a (big) bite"...
Damn natural wonders...
it really sucks.
But we are okay, keeping up our spirits, and brainstorming how to rebuild something better than before. here is a website to see what my sisters have put together to help us out.
Rey told me just now that yesterday the government aid was approved, so we will see.
We are relaxing watching movies up in our room, enjoying what is left of our humble home (kitchen, upstairs, bath house). Could be worse!
Take care, Kate, Rey, Acalli, Ileana, Cafe , Fantasma and Snowy
