A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

The city of Oaxaca and Zipolite beach have been selected as finalists in the seventh edition of the “Best of Mexico 2025” awards , organized by the specialized magazine México Desconocido , which distinguishes the most outstanding tourist destinations and experiences in the country.

In this regard, the Oaxaca Convention, Congress and Events Bureau ( OCCE ) highlighted that these nominations reflect the constant work to position the state as a tourist reference at the national and international level, following the strategies promoted by Governor Salomón Jara Cruz .

In this edition, Oaxaca de Juárez is competing in the category “Best city to celebrate a destination wedding”, along with San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato and Morelia, Michoacán; thanks to its cultural richness , specialized infrastructure and unparalleled settings.

Así celebraron el Día de Muertos en la #CostaOaxaqueña.

🪦Así celebraron el Día de Muertos en la #CostaOaxaqueña.
Entre olas y flores, #Catrinas y #Catrines, hombres y #Mujeres navegaron sobre el mar de #PuertoEscondido durante la tercera “Remada de Catrinas”, un homenaje a los hijos del mar que partieron antes de tiempo.
Con coronas de flores, rostros pintados y trajes llenos de color, los participantes se mecieron en las aguas del Pacífico, convirtiendo el horizonte en un altar vivo.
