Hola my Mexico-loving friends! High season is over, and hot season has begun. May in Mexico is great if you don't mind higher temperatures, because most snow birds have left and the wet season hasn't quite begun. It's a brief period of time at the beaches and even inland around Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Oaxaca, where you can enjoy a quieter, slightly cheaper experience without worrying about the weather (unless you don't want to be melting in 85 degree days). Mexico Updates from Around the Web- Some of the biggest news in the last month is, unfortunately, a shooting that took place at Teotihuacan two weeks ago. A Canadian woman was killed, and more than a dozen others were injured. It has raised a lot of concerns about whether Mexico City is going to be ready (safety-wise) for the World Cup next month. You can read more about the situation here. In response, the government has stated that it will increase security at tourist sites around the country.
- Speaking of the World Cup, will the Mexico City airport be ready for the number of people that will come through it in June? They think so.
- The Mexican government continues to crack down on the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. In April, the military captured one of the cartel's top leaders, only a month after killing kingpin, El Mencho. Read more about it here.
- If you're a Pacers or a Nuggets fan and want another excuse to visit Mexico City, the two teams will play each other in a regular-season game on November 7th.
- AeroMexico has launched a "stopover" program, which allows international travelers to visit two destinations on the same ticket, with time spent at each destination in between. Learn more about it here.
- Starting this winter, there will be four more direct flights between Cabo and Canada, including Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Read the latest on that here.
- It looks like it's set to be a very active hurricane season along the Pacific coast of Mexico this year. This is how they are preparing for it in Puerto Vallarta.
- Have you been thinking about Huatulco and whether it's worth the trip? Alex Wittman shared a fantastic video last month of her experience there that reminded me what a special place it is to explore. Watch it here.
- My favorite food-loving British YouTubers, TopJaw, have finally visited Mexico and made a video about it. For an updated list of some of the best places to eat around Mexico City, check it out here.
