 Hurricane Carlotta
Anybody with any info regarding the hurricane that passed along the coast. We understand from reading a few on-line newspapers, Puerto Escondido was hit with big winds, etc and that some damage was reported in Pluma de Hidalgo. The news here is pretty sketchy, hope everything is "ok" in Huatulco.

Two children killed in Hidalgo. Maybe more injuries among the poor. Those little jacals (huts) offer scant protection in any big storm. Heart-breaking---so much for the proclamation on A I buses "Welcome to paradise!"
"Paradise" only for some.
A lot of power cuts.
The big hotels will be just as luxurious.
Our sincere sympathy to the family of the children, especially their mother.

The deaths of these 2 girls was a terrible thing
I do fail to see how resort hotels 30 miles away affect the deaths of these sisters
Without the resort hotels Pluma Hidalgo would have nothing more then a goat path leading to it ( that is all there was 10 years ago)
Nor would tourists be around to go to Pluma and spend their money
Pluma is a paradise with or without the resort hotels
Terrible things happen all over each and every day
But to blame hotels or resorts for this incident is a huge reach that I will not make

Destination Expert   What's this?
for Queretaro
The most extensive damage appears to be in the Zipolite area with still no power or water after two days. The larger towns of Puerto Escondido and Huatulco appear to have been relatively fortunate.

Zipolite Buildings are certainly not built to the standards that there are in Huatulco
Could be part of the problem
